OBSERVING. SELECTING. COMPOSING.
Through photography, collection, drawing and material investigation, ordinary objects are transformed into artworks, objects and exhibitions.
Each becomes part of a larger conversation about observation, memory and place.
LOOK CLOSER
An ordinary object observed so closely that it becomes unfamiliar.
TRACEFORM begins with attention.
A rusted bolt.
A fragment of opal.
A patch of peeling paint.
A crack in concrete.
The work starts by looking closer than necessary.
TRACEFORM unfolds through exhibition chapters.
CHAPTER 01
THE SHUFFLE
The first exhibition developed through TRACEFORM.
Created from hundreds of observations collected throughout Port Kembla, THE SHUFFLE assembles fragments of place into larger compositions.
Industrial surfaces.
Found objects.
Mineral specimens.
Weeds.
Traces of use.
Collected.
Selected.
Rearranged.
Like a jeweller composing a cluster from individual stones, observations are assembled into new forms.
FROM OBSERVATION TO FORM
TRACEFORM begins with observation.
Rusted bolts.
Opal inclusions.
Industrial paint.
Concrete surfaces.
Weeds.
Fragments.
Each is collected, photographed and studied.
Selected not for what it is, but for its colour, texture, structure and relationship to the observations around it.
Some remain studies.
Some become exhibition works.
Some become part of a growing archive.
What begins as observation gradually becomes composition.
What begins as documentation becomes form.
